A Brief History of Oakwood Adventist Academy
Oakwood Adventist Academy (OAA), located in Huntsville, Alabama, has a rich legacy rooted in Christian education and excellence. Founded in 1896 as part of the Oakwood Industrial School—now Oakwood University—OAA originally served to provide quality education for the children of African American Seventh-day Adventist families during a time of great social and racial inequality.
Over the decades, OAA evolved from a small elementary school into a fully accredited K-12 institution. The academy has continually emphasized academic achievement, spiritual growth, and service, nurturing generations of students to become thoughtful leaders, professionals, and faithful citizens.
As one of the oldest historically Black Seventh-day Adventist academies in the United States, Oakwood Adventist Academy proudly stands as a beacon of legacy, faith, and excellence. Its alumni can be found around the world, making a difference in countless communities.
